Community Charges

Interesting article in the Gazette on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, about Iowa City Council asking neighboring communities to pay their fair share toward the animal shelter that Iowa City own and operates. They already have contracts with Solon, Johnson County and Coralville. North Liberty has agreed to sign one also. I am sure University Heights will be asked also.
Iowa City is also looking at other services to get other communities to contribute. They mention Senior Center in the article as a possibility. They have tough budget times as residential property valuations are not growing and Iowa City is having to find other sources of revenue.
We will have to see what additional expenses University Heights will start incurring on an annual basis in the future. We already pay over $30,000 as a town for library privileges.
